Based on the analysis of archival resources the author explains the hitherto completely uncharted issue of the civilian administration of the originally military main field hospitals located in Moravia in 1814. The author proceeds to explain the reasons why the administration of the hospitals was changed, what the implications were for both the military and civilian sectors, and how this change affected the hospitals and the patients themselves. The author further demonstrates that the change in administration effectively impacted the staffing of hospitals in particular and explains why civilian administration was not found to be more effective than military administration.

The aim of the present study is to show the possibilities of studying stillbirths on the basis of an analysis of the parish register records from the 19 th century. So far, this topic has been outside the attention of Czech researchers. The findings are presented using the example of the towns of Litomyšl and Svitavy. in the 19 th century, Litomyšl was a traditional rural town without industrial development. On the contrary, Svitavy became an important industrial centre because from the middle of the 19 th century the main railway line from Prague to Brno ran through the town. As it has been found, the character of the town did not affect the observed stillbirth rates. The main problem was the brief and incomplete records of stillbirths. Besides them, abortions and, in the case of Svitavy, stillborn children who were baptised out of necessity were also recorded in the registers. in addition to the problematic registration, the study also pays attention to the causes of death in stillbi

The presented study is based on a detailed analysis of 5380 entries about children who were born in several small towns and villages in the region around Pelhřimov in the South Bohemia between 1800–1899. The increasing number of illegitimate babies must have gone hand in hand with a change in the attitude to fatherless children. From a demographical point of view, this change documented by the increased chance of survival, which indirectly testifies that these children were provided with care. Another suitable tool for studying the extra-familial social relations of illegitimate children and their mothers seems to be the examination of their godparents. A key to the interpretation of factors connected with births and baptisms of illegitimate children is a detailed comparison with the situation of children born to properly married parents as well as the additionally legitimised children.
